ScribeKit Privacy Policy

ScribeKit is built by trulyoffline. This policy explains what ScribeKit does with your data. The short version: your recordings and transcripts never leave your device, and the only thing that does is an anonymous record of what you bought.

Your audio and transcripts

All transcription happens on your device. ScribeKit ships with a speech recognition model inside the app (NVIDIA Parakeet) and can optionally download Whisper models from the model's public repository. Audio you record or import is processed locally and is never uploaded by the app. Transcripts, folders and settings are stored in the app's own storage on your device and are included in your normal iCloud or computer backups only if you have backups turned on for your device.

When you delete the app, all recordings and transcripts on the device are permanently erased. Copies in existing iCloud or computer backups remain until those backups are deleted or replaced.

Exporting and sharing

When you copy, share or export a transcript or an audio file, you choose where it goes. The share sheet is a standard iOS mechanism that hands data to the app you select. ScribeKit does not initiate any uploads.

Purchases (ScribeKit Pro)

ScribeKit is free to use. ScribeKit Pro is an optional in-app purchase, available as a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase.

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. ScribeKit uses RevenueCat, a purchase-management service, to confirm purchases and restore them on your other devices. For this, RevenueCat receives:

  • a randomly generated, anonymous identifier for your installation of the app (not your name, email or Apple Account);
  • your purchase and subscription history for ScribeKit (product, dates, renewal state);
  • basic device information Apple attaches to receipts (device model, iOS version, App Store country).

This is the only data ScribeKit sends automatically. It is not linked to your identity, is not used for advertising or tracking, and is never combined with your recordings or transcripts, which RevenueCat never sees.

In Apple's App Store privacy label this appears as Purchases › Purchase History, used for app functionality and analytics, not linked to you, not used to track you. Here "analytics" means RevenueCat's aggregate purchase metrics; ScribeKit itself contains no analytics code.

Model downloads

The built-in model needs no download. If you choose to download an optional Whisper model, the app fetches the model files from Hugging Face, the public repository that hosts them. That request contains no personal data beyond what any web download carries (your IP address, as seen by their servers). Nothing about your recordings is sent.

What we do not collect

No analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, no telemetry of any kind. ScribeKit has no account system, so there is no email address or password to store.

Suitability for regulated work

ScribeKit is architecturally private: audio never leaves your device during transcription. However, regulated compliance (HIPAA, attorney-client privilege, journalistic source protection) involves more than one app. Consult your compliance officer before using any tool for regulated work.

Children's privacy

ScribeKit does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13.

If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date and note the changes here.
